How do I allow students to upload and modify content in a Resources folder?

By default, students in course sites are not able to upload or modify items in Resources.  You can allow students to upload content to a Resources folder, as well as edit and delete their own content, either by editing the permissions on a folder that is available to the entire site or by restricting access to the folder to specific group(s).  This article describes how to edit permissions on a folder.

For steps to restrict folder access to specific group(s), see How do I create a group folder in Resources?

Go to Resources.

Select the Resources tool from the tool menu of your site.

Select Actions, then Edit Folder Permissions.

  1. To the right of the Resources folder where you would like students to upload files, select the Actions menu.
  2. Select Edit Folder Permissions.

Note: On mobile devices or small screens, the Actions menu displays as a down arrow icon.

Modify student permissions.

Under the Student column, select the checkbox(es) for any of the following optional permissions:

  1. Create resources
  2. Edit own resources
  3. Delete own resources

Note: Students will need to be able to Create resources in order to be able to Edit or Delete their own resources.

Select Save.

Students may now add items to the edited folder.

Pictured above is a student's view of Resources, where students have been allowed to create, edit and delete their own resources in a Student Projects folder.  The folders in this site differ as follows:

  1. In the Actions menu of Student Projects, the student can Add content; for example, options are available to Upload Files and Create Folders.
  2. However, in the Actions menu of a folder with no special permissions, the student can only View Details on it.
