How do I import a question pool?

You can import a question pool from an IMS QTI-compliant XML (QTI v 1.2) file created by exporting an assessment from a UVACollab site, provided by a publisher, or exported from another system.

To be able to import questions directly into a question pool, an assessment must have been exported as QTI v 1.2, NOT Content Packaging.  Alternatively, you can import an assessment, and add the questions to a question pool from the assessment editing screen.

For more information about question pools, see What is a question pool?

Note: There is currently no way to export question pools, but questions can be exported in the form of an assessment.

Go to Tests & Quizzes.

Select the Tests & Quizzes tool from the Tool Menu of your site.

Select the Question Pools tab.

Select Import Pool.

Select the Import link above the list of existing question pools.

Select your file, then Import.

  1. Use the Choose File button to browse for the XML file to upload from your computer.
  2. Select the QTI v 1.2 XML file on your computer.
  3. Select to Open or Choose the file (the name of the option will depend on your internet browser and computer operating system).  Pictured above is a file being selected in Chrome on a Windows computer.

Select Import.

  1. When the file to import is selected, its name will display next to the Choose File button.
  2. Select Import.

View the imported question pool.

You will be returned to the Question Pools page with the newly created pool in your list of question pools.  The new pool will have the title of the original downloaded assessment or question bank, not a title from your external file name.
