Discussion & Private Messages Retires in 2019

The Discussion & Private Messages tool is being retired on Sunday, January 6, 2019. Retirement of Discussion & Private Messages is necessary because the tool is no longer supported by the vendor.

Summer 2018 through Fall 2018: What do I need to do?

  1. Recommended: switch to using the Forums discussion tool in course and collaboration sites in UVACollab. Refer to the following Help articles for guidance on adding the Forums tool and setting up forums and topics:
  2. If desired, copy and paste forum and topic headings and descriptions from Discussion & Private Messages into the Forums tool for reuse in new sites.
  3. If desired, owners of sites that used Discussion & Private Messages may want to archive content for future reference.

Fall 2018: What do I need to know?

The Discussion & Private Messages tool will be no longer be available to add to new course and collaboration sites in UVACollab.

It will no longer be possible to copy or import the tool and its contents from an existing site to another site.

Jan. 6, 2019: What happens when Discussion & Private Messages is retired for good?

On Jan. 6, 2019, Discussion & Private Messages will be permanently retired.

Retirement means that use of the Discussion & Private Messages tool will no longer be possible and all content will be removed from the tool in any site that still has it.

Use Site Info > Manage Tools to remove the defunct tool from sites, as needed.
