How do I set up WebDAV for Windows 10?

You can upload and/or download resources using the WebDAV protocol. WebDAV allows you to transfer files and folders from your local computer to and from your site's Resources or File Drop. For more information about WebDAV, and accessing the WebDAV URL for your site's Resources or File Drop tool, see How do I upload or download resources using WebDAV?

Note: There must be at least one object (file or folder) in the selected Resources or File Drop tool before you begin the setup procedure. This procedure needs to be done once for each tool before you can use WebDAV to transfer files to and from that tool.

Important: Due to how Windows 10 establishes WebDAV connections, a WebDAV connection using a Windows 10 network location will not continue to work after you restart your computer - you will need to delete an existing connection and follow the steps below each time you would like to connect to a site's Resources or File Drop.

To establish a persistent WebDAV connection that you can reuse after restarting your computer, we recommend downloading and using the Cyberduck WebDAV client instead of connecting with a Windows network location.

Access the File Explorer.

Select the File Explorer in the taskbar.

The File Explorer button looks like a file folder.

Or access the File Explorer from the Start menu.

Select the File Explorer icon in the Start menu.

Add a network location.

  1. Right-click on This PC.
  2. Select Add a network location.

Select Next.

The Add Network Location Wizard will display.  Select Next to continue.

Choose a custom network location.

  1. Choose a custom network location should be selected by default.  If it is not, select it.
  2. Select Next.

Enter the WebDAV URL.

  1. In the Internet or network address box, paste in the WebDAV URL from your site's Resources or File Drop.
  2. Select Next.

Enter your User Name and Password.

You will be prompted to log in.

  1. In the User Name box, enter the username (either your UVA computing ID or your non-UVA email address) you use to log into UVACollab.
  2. In the Password box, paste the Access Token you copied from the Transfer Multiple Files page of your site's Resources or File Drop.
  3. Select OK.


  • For steps to find the WebDAV URL and Access Token in your site's tool, see How do I upload or download resources using WebDAV?  
  • For security, the Access Token expires after 7 days.  To continue using your WebDAV connection, return to the Transfer Multiple Files page and copy the new Access Token to log in.

Name the network location (Optional) and select Next.

  1. To make it easy to identify the site to which you are connecting, you can enter a name for the Resources or File Drop folder that will display on your computer's desktop.  This is especially helpful if you want to connect to more than one site's Resources or File Drop tool(s).
  2. Select Next.

Select Finish.

You can now drag files and folders to and from your computer and the site's folder.

Pictured above is a WebDAV connection to a UVACollab site's Resources folder on a computer desktop.  You can drag, drop, edit and delete files in your selected Resources or File Drop folder as you would files that are saved on your computer.

Note: If you have permission to read content in a site, you can download multiple files via WebDAV by dragging the files from the site's folder to a folder on your local computer. You can only save, edit or delete files in the selected site's Resources or File Drop if you have the appropriate permissions in the site.

All site participants can use WebDAV to upload files to their own File Drop folders.  By default, students will only have permission to download files from Resources in a course site.  Instructors can choose to allow students to upload and edit their own content in Resources.
