How do I add a question to a page in Lessons?

Instructors can add either a Multiple Choice question or a Short Answer question to a lesson page. The questions can either be in poll form (no correct answer) or in graded form (correct answer).

Step-by-Step Instructions

Add a multiple choice question.

Go to Lessons.

Select the Title of the page (e.g., Lessons, Activities, Week: 1) from the tool menu in your site.  

Select Add Content.

Select Add Question.

Add question and answers.

  1. Select Multiple Choice.
  2. Enter question text into the Question Text field.
  3. Enter answers into the Possible Answers field.
  4. Select the checkbox to the left of an answer to designate it as a correct answer. Leaving all answers unselected will treat the question as a poll.
  5. Select Add New Answer to add additional answers.

Select the grading and release options.

  1. To show students a graph of student responses, select Show students a graph of how others responded after they answer the question.
  2. To add the question to the gradebook, select Grade this question and enter an item title and points into the appropriate fields.
  3. To add text to display after correct or incorrect answers, enter text into the appropriate fields.
  4. To prevent the release of the question until previous prerequisite items have been completed, select Don't Release Item Until All Prerequisites are Completed.
  5. To require students to complete the question, select Require This Item.
  6. To restrict the question to particular groups within the site, select the Edit the groups for which this item should be shown link.
  7. Select Save to save the changes.

Edit the question.

If you would like to edit the question, select the pencil and paper (Edit) icon to the right of the question.

View the student responses.

To view the student responses to the question, select the bulleted list (Grading Pane) icon to the right of the question.

Add a short answer question.

Go to Lessons.

Select the Title of the page (e.g., Lessons, Activities, Week: 1) from the tool menu in your site.  

Select Add Content.

Select Add Question.

Add question and answers.

Enter the question and answers:

  1. Select Short Answer.
  2. Enter question text into the Question Text field.
  3. Enter answers into the Possible Answers field.
  4. Select Add New Answer to add additional answers (entering no answers will treat the question as a poll).

Select the grading and release options.

  1. To add the question to the gradebook, select Grade this question and enter an item title and points into the appropriate fields.
  2. To add text to display after correct or incorrect answers, enter text into the appropriate fields.
  3. To prevent the release of the question until previous prerequisite items have been completed, select Don't Release Item Until All Prerequisites are Completed.
