How do I hide or control the visibility of a page in Lessons?

Site administrators can control if and when site participants can view a page in Lessons. Instructors can hide pages to create content before making it available to students, or set pages to be released automatically at a particular date and time.

Tip: See How do I hide or show items in the tool menu? for more information on how to hide and show all of the tools in a site.

Hide a page.

Go to Lessons.

Select the Title of the page (e.g., Lessons, Activities, Week: 1) from the tool menu in your site.

Select Settings.

Select the cog (Settings) icon from the menu at the top of the page.

Adjust the page visibility settings.

  1. Select Hide this page from users (page will not appear in left margin) to hide this page from site participants. Site administrators will still be able to access the hidden page.
  2. Select Hide page until the following date (the page will be listed with the release date) to prevent site participants from accessing the page until a certain date and time. Site administrators will still be able to access the page before the specified date.
  3. Select Save.

View hidden page.

You can tell a page is hidden in the tool menu when the title is in italics and it has an eye icon with a slash through it.

Make a page visible again (unhide).

Go to the hidden page.

Select the Title of the hidden page (e.g., Lessons, Activities, Week: 1) from the tool menu in your site. A hidden page can be identified by the page title in italics and the eye icon with a slash through it.

Check to see where the page is hidden.

There are two places to hide a page in Lessons.

  • If the page is hidden in the page settings, you will see this message at the top of the page: This page is currently hidden from standard users. You can change this in the Settings window. If this message is visible, go to the steps to Unhide the page in page settings.
  • If the page is hidden in Site Settings, you will not see the message mentioned above. If this message is not visible, go to the steps to Unhide the page in Site Settings.

Unhide the page in page settings.

Select Settings.

Select the cog (Settings) icon from the menu at the top of the page.

Adjust the page visibility settings.

  1. Uncheck the Hide this page from users (page will not appear in left margin) checkbox to make this page visible to site participants.
  2. Uncheck the Hide page until the following date (the page will be listed with the release date) checkbox to make this page visible to site participants immediately.
  3. Select Save.

View page.

You can tell a page is visible in the tool menu when the eye icon with a slash is no longer visible and the page title displays in standard formatting.

Unhide the page in Site Settings.

Go to Site Settings.

Select Site Settings from the tool menu in your site.

Select Tool Order.

Make tool visible to students.

  1. Select the cog icon to the right of a hidden tool.
  2. Select Make Tool Visible to Students.

Select Save.
