How do I view my grades in the Gradebook?

Instructors may use the Gradebook to provide grades and feedback to students for their course work in UVACollab.

Tip: Course grades are only visible to students in the Student Information System (SIS) at the end of each semester after final grades have been approved and posted. For more information, visit the SIS FAQ for Students (opens in new window).

Go to Gradebook.

Select the Gradebook tool from the Tool Menu of your site.

View your grade report.

The sample Grade Report pictured above displays the student's view of their grades. It includes categories and the weighted percentage by which each category applies toward the overall course grade. Individual gradebook items are associated with corresponding categories.

  1. Grade Report Filtering: When Categories are used, you may use the Group by Category and Expand All/Collapse All options to filter the Grade Report.
  2. Sort grade report data: The Grade Report displays Gradebook Items, Grades, Weights (for categories, if used), Due Dates (if used), and Comments (also see Tip, below). Select a column heading to sort grade report data by that criteria.
  3. Expand/collapse categories: Use the Category headings to expand and collapse the view of items within each category.
  4. Gradebook items: Gradebook items are used to score discrete assignments in the course. Multiple assignments (items) are associated with the Papers category in this example.
  5. Weighted categories: If an instructor is using Categories and Weighting, the Weight column displays the  percentage value of each category toward the overall course grade. In this example, the Papers category is worth 15% of the total course grade.
  6. Dropped grades: A category with one or more dropped grades will display a dropped grade as strikethrough text on a shaded background. Dropped grades are omitted from the overall grade calculation for the category and course.

Tip: While grader comments will appear in the Gradebook for items such as assignments and forum discussions, remember that additional instructor feedback and/or graded file attachments may also be available, e.g., in Assignments or Forums.
